Jake's 1

Hard to believe that our little man is a year old. He has been such a wonderful baby. He sleeps well, eats good, and smiles often. Only a year in and I can already see the difference between boys and girls. Jake just seems more laid back and easy going. We can't wait to watch and see what is to come with the next year. Here's the current interesting facts about Jakers...

He loves pineapple and jello.
He does not love cake...barely ate a bite at his party.
He loves riding in the wagon and sitting in the coupe car.
He loves bubbles.
His vocab now consists of about 6-8 words...my favorite being woof.
He is currently dealing with some separation issues...he just loves being with me at all times. :)
He no longer takes any formula...straight whole milk which he is totally digging.
He loves playing cars and cooking at Haley's kitchen.
He dances every time he hears the clean up song.
He loves playing in the dirt and is the most adventurous when he is outside.
He still won't let go and start walking but I know it will be here soon.

Happy 1st birthday Jake. We love you!!

Checkups

Jake and Haley had a joint appt with Dr. Wilber a few weeks back. They were each due their yearly checkups....Jake's 1 year and Haley's 3 year (we were a little behind). They both got a good review and per Dr. Wilber, they are keepers. Their stats are as follows:

Haley
34 lbs 9.6 oz
37 3/4 inches

Jake
21 lbs 10.5 oz
31 1/4 inches

They both are growing up into little kids and it makes me sad everytime I think about. I wish they would stay my little babies forever. :(

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

Today we went to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as a family for the first time. Justin's parents are still in town from Jake's party so they came too and we made an afternoon/evening of it. We had a lot of fun and will hopefully make a yearly tradition out of it. Check out all our fun in pictures...
 Yea for public transportation!
 Haley's first tram ride.
Haley is afraid of carousels but apparently loves riding a real pony in a circle over and over again.
Lightning the pony was by far the highlight of Haley's day!
Jake got in on the action too. I got to pick his horse so of course he rode Tex. :)
Jake made a special connection in the petting zoo with this sweet little goat.
I think he wanted to take him home.
Haley and Justin having some fun on the farm! Haha.
 My little farmers.

Milking the cow! She wasn't too sure about this one.
 Fried deliciousness.
I have these two wrapped around my little finger. :)
Remarkably Haley even thought it was too loud up in the nose bleed section.
Jake getting rodeo pointers from grandpa.

 Me and my "big" kids.

Monster Party

We celebrated Jake's first birthday this past Saturday with a Monster Party. Two parties so close together had me stressing out but things seemed to go off without any hitches. Justin barbecued and I baked and Jake had a blast!...Haley was there too but off in big kid world. :) Thanks to all our family and friends who helped make Jake's day extra special. He is one lucky "big" boy! Check out the pics below from the party.

Jake's first completely self created art work. :)
The birthday boys favorites...strawberries, blueberries, and grapes.
 Monster Bait...a variation from pinterest.
Homemade marbled and chocolate cupcakes. Yummo!
Jake's personal monster cake. This was my first real attempt at cake decorating.
 The birthday throne.
Presents, presents, and more presents. We apparently need a bigger house now.
 Favors...monster slime and "hairy" monsters.
Monster slime. This was a huge hit with the kids. Gross and cool...what more could they want?!? Ha.
For the last week we have been growing these little guys for party favors. Haley thought they were awesome!

 The Texas Buskirks
If only we knew what was going on here.
He was a little unsure at first....
...but got totally into when then fire started and the group broke into song. :)
 "Happy Birthday to Jake"

Not wanting any cake...I thought maybe if he saw all the other kids...

 ...and it worked!!

Threw in a spoon and it got even more exciting.

Thirty minutes later a decent mess had been made and someone was ready for a bath. :)

I can hardly believe our little boy is a year old. How times flies! He has been an absolute joy to our family and I couldn't have asked for a better little baby....hopefully that will carry through the next year as he becomes a walking, talking toddler. Check back in a few days for Jake's 1 year post.

Happy birthday Jake Owen Buskirk! We love you like crazy!
