Baby Update

Today Justin and I had our big 20 week ultrasound and it looks like everything is on target.  The baby is already weighing 8 oz and was super active during our appointment. I didn't realize until I started this post that I hadn't yet mentioned that our new little bundle is going to be a boy! When we found out a few weeks ago I was both excited and nervous. Having a boy is like starting over from scratch as a parent. I have no idea what boys like or how to care for them...I understand that general care is the same for both sexes but I was quickly made aware of a few drastic differences by fellow mothers of boys. My plan is to just turn him over to Justin. Haha. Can I just tell you that Justin was ecstatic? I think at the very moment the u/s tech pointed out the extra appendage I saw a glimmer of hope appear in Justin's eye for a future Husker quarterback in the family. I am just glad to lessen my stress for keeping the Buskirk name going. :)

Three Years and Counting

Three years ago Justin and I said our vows to love each other through thick and thin!! It was a wonderful day that I will never forget; the way he looked, the way I felt, how happy we both were to be joining our lives. As time passes and our family grows I know that everything is possible because I have him by my side. Our relationship is the backbone of our family and without each other it just wouldn't work. I couldn't do it without him.
To celebrate the day we dropped the munchkin off with ECLG and headed off for a quiet dinner for two at Taste of Texas...our official anniversary restaurant (hello they give you a free slice of Snickers cake if you are celebrating an event). We have been there every year so far. The food was great and the alone time was even better. I love just talking with my husband and always look forward to the time we have together a couple.

Happy Anniversary honey!

Pumpkins

We took a family outing to the Pearland pumpkin patch (really just pumpkins brought in and set up in a cute way at a local church) this week. Haley had a great time roaming around trying to find the biggest pumpkin she could pick up and playing with her cousins. We did make it out with 6 of our favorites. We got a warty one, one ready for carving, and my absolute favorite...a white one. Oh and 3 baby pumpkins just cause they are so darn cute. I really love fall and sometimes wish we lived somewhere that the season actually existed. It would be way more fun to pick out our family pumpkins if we weren't sweating.

A New Do

This past weekend we took Haley for her very first hair cut! I don't think it was necessarily warranted since her hair did not need a cut but I have resorted to everything to get it to grow. I am tired or her constant bed/chair/car seat head. I am so ready for clips and ponytails.

Haley did great at her appointment. She fussed at the very beginning cause she didn't want to sit in the chair but as soon as they blew bubbles in her face and gave her a lollipop she was smitten. (side note - Remind me to put in a customer comment in at Snip-It's that sticky lollipops are probably not the best choice of reward for a place that is full of hair clippings. Haley dropped it and it was a hairy goner.) In the end the change was less than dramatic but still a fun experience.

I did mentioned to Justin after the appointment that I think I might become Haley's personal hairstylist from here on out. Seriously...how hard can it be?

Camping

This past weekend Justin, Haley, and I packed up for a little family adventure...we went camping at Brazos Bend State Park. It was a ton of fun: the weather was beautiful, the park was great, and the alligators kept their distance. Aside from a run in with raccoons at 4:00 am the trip was a blast. We stayed just one night which was plenty for Haley (and mommy). Maybe when the kiddos are a bit older we can plan for a longer stay.

When I was younger every family trip we went on we always went camping. I can only remember staying in a hotel on a few special occasion. My parents always enjoyed it and passed their passion onto their kids(granted it has been dormant in my life for a good portion of my teens and twenties). It is a part of my childhood that I actually have memories about and am glad to be incorporating the experiences into Haley's. Also, Justin loved it. It was just the right amount of roughing it while still enjoying the convenience of running water, restrooms, and electricity.
